Cruise into Annapolis for the US Sailboat Show, October 13-17

Every October, sailors from around the globe gather on miles of docks in beautiful downtown historic Annapolis, Maryland to experience the United States Sailboat Show. There are beautiful boats on display, of course, but there are also tasting tents with great food and exhibitors showcasing everything from boating gear to jewelry inspired by the sea (hey, that’s me!).

United States Sailboat Show in Annapolis

I love my early morning walk over the Eastport drawbridge to the Town Dock. The sun is rising over the river, there’s a perfect fall chill in the air, and the steam from my coffee warms my nose. By early afternoon, the day is roaring. The floating docks are at full capacity with new boats to see, and the music from Pusser’s Caribbean Grille lends an island vibe to the quaint and historic waterfront.

I’ve been hard at work on some new additions to the collections that make Maggie Lee Designs a boat show favorite. One of my favorites is the lobster pot buoy charm (think crab pot buoy if you are south of the border). Inspired by the lobster trap tree in Stonington Borough, I created a few variations available in 14K gold and solid sterling silver. I’ve also created a number of new sterling charms — whale tails, seashells, and some pretty classic compasses.

I’ve chosen the most beautiful coin pearls and given them a nautical vibe with 14K gold hand-twisted rope accents. You’ll find bracelets, earrings, and necklaces called “Nauti Pearls,” now part of the Caribbean Dreams Collection.

By now, I’m sure you’re hungry, and no boat show experience is complete without great food. In addition to the local restaurants like Iron Rooster and Galaway Bay, there are special food stands set up just for the show. The street my tent is on is lined with local churches and non-profits offering delicious options. Don’t miss the Maryland crab soup and pit beef at The Fleet Reserve. The fish fry stand is delicious too.

I can’t wait to see my sailing friends again. It’s always nice to reconnect at the boat show and hear about their annual adventures on the water.
